ANGULAR DAMPING
After some testing with beta testers we noticed that the new high speeds I introduced added alot of unwanted spinning out of control. So we introduced angular damping to the cars and the second I added that in, the results were amazing. We were now able to control the car as well as it fixing alot of the issues with landing cars at high speeds from high up in the air.
Other fixes from this mechanic:
Fixed highway cars having over correction in the steering mechanics resulting in them steering back in forth longer than needed to fix small steer errors.
MORE TUNING
After messing around with the angular damp settings as well as some weight settings, It felt to me that it would be very user specific and should both be something that could be tuned. So I added a car mass slider under the center of mass config as well as a angular damp slider above the slip tires toggle!
( Make sure to use the scroll feature in the tune menu! )
USER STATS
To prepare for more leader-boards as well as steam stats, I built a small back-end to start tracking stats and user actions like jumping, top speed and more.
These will be tethered with achievements as well and each stat should have several levels of achievements you can get for a variety of rewards and XP.
LEGACY HIGHWAY
New Legacy highway plane width in attempt to have players only be able to drift on the road
New road gen / AI gen for legacy highway.
Fixed issue of AI not spawning in far left lane as well issues with them spawning on curbs
OTHER FIXES
Camera Follow changes
Added look ahead factor to avoid the car being to high on the screen
Re-Worked the look feature to be more smooth and have more "movement" while still being more stable than the previous camera to help with over-stimulating visual / movements since the game is at a very fast speed.
Also added subtle angle effects for when the player is doing flips or high angle drifts.
Boost regen mechanic while not using it
This will most likely change to build up based on drift score with a much smaller regen that you can upgrade in a shop / garage.
Re-structured entire back-end & road / AI spawning.
One script now handles all AI & road spawning no matter the game-mode / AI intelligence.
Fixed AI cars spawn position on Y axis for legacy highway
No longer will get stuck in the floor after the latest update
Environment changes in all game-modes except cop-chase.
Cop-Chase will get a update very soon now that the other game-modes are closer to being finished in their beta state.
Fixed Spawn position when loading into a scene
Also fixed camera position when spawning in to face the right direction.
Added audio compression to help with lag spikes
Still need to create a LB solution since that will create small lag spikes.
Fixed render distance bug with grid sky-box
Lots more bug fixes and other random additions
Connected the info tab on the home-page to show all the devlogs for the game so users can follow progress and see a little more on what is being done
